Moved to ClassicPress
September 25, 2024
Remember around a month ago when I said the site was back on WordPress and that I’ll probably get bored and switch again at some point? Well, that point was last night. I moved to ClassicPress.
Why bother, you ask? Well, I started thinking about switching things up after reading Matt Mullenweg’s comments about WP Engine, calling them “a cancer to WordPress”.
I considered a few options:
- weblog.lol. I already have an omg.lol account, so I wouldn’t have had to sign up for anything and could’ve just started posting. The problem there is that I’m not sure of migration and some other details that I’d have to work out first, so I put that one on the back burner.
- Going back to Jekyll. Meh.
- Ghost. This was a strong contender, but I wasn’t in the mood to deal with the self-install and building a new theme.
- Writing my own basic blogging app. Been there, done that, no thanks.
Then I remembered that ClassicPress existed. I installed their migration plugin, followed the instructions, and boom, that was it. ClassicPress works great for me because I already had Gutenberg and a handful of other “new” WP features turned off. Technically it’s still kind of WordPress, but it’s a fork and has had a ton of stuff ripped out and sped up.
Anyway, there may be another post about this in a month or two, but for now ClassicPress seems to be working just fine. If you notice anything weird, please let me know.
